Choosing your dressing table
With the massive range of furniture we have on offer it may be difficult to narrow down your choice. Ok, you’ve already decided that you want the classical white look, but how else do you decide exactly what piece you need. Well, here are some considerations you might not have thought about which could help.
Just how many cosmetics and beauty items do you have? So women have only a few select pieces of makeup and cosmetic which they need to store. Others have a massive variety that they like to keep on hand and, as such will naturally need room in their dressing table to keep. Whichever category you fall into it’s always wise to choose a piece with that little bit more storage than you need, just in case. If you have storage elsewhere then a 3 drawer piece will usually suffice. However if you want it to be your main area of storage, then we would recommend choosing a piece with 6 drawers.
How much room do you have? – clearly the dressing table has to fit somewhere! So our advice is to measure up first, so you know exactly what will fit and in which space. If you have a clear area already designated for this piece of furniture then this is fairly simple. However if you are rearranging the room, we would advise getting a box, or piece of wood, anything roughly the same size as the dressing table you’ve looked at. You can then move the pieces around to see what fits, and is a useful way to visualise the layout.
Modern Styling
Whilst dressing tables were originally highly elaborate affairs, the modern style features sleek line and simplicity in it's design. In stark contrast to the more impactful art-deco pieces (featuring mirrored surfaces), nowadays the focus is on a beautiful minimalist in white, but with a number of remaining classical features. However many women still prefer the indulgent style when putting on their makeup to really feel glamourous. You can find more information on the different styles here. If you're undecided on which style to take, why not have a look at our guide to matching dressing tables with your other furniture.
French Style Dressing tables
Dressing tables have their origins in France, so this style is very much the classical look. The French style offers features dated back to the eighteenth century originals with very ornate and detailed decoration. The theme behind this style is luxury and indulgence, thus they can be beautifully over-the-top in their elaborate woodwork with the stools often featuring highly padded, bright and colourful cushions to stand out against the white.
Accessories
Many of the products we have highlighted from our retail partners are sets, which come with the base unit plus a mirror and stool. However some of the products featured are standalone, and as such you'll need to purchase these accessories for a complete look. Please see our dedicated stools page and our mirrors page to help with your choice. For an overview and some things to think about before your purchase please see our buying guide which should give you some pointers to ponder over.
